There are several methods for checking for sensitivity of acetylcholine esterase in insects using a single insect. Drop the acetylcholine iodide and 5, 5-dithio-bis, solutions into one of the well and 5, 5-dithio-bis propoxur solutions into the other well. Now check for a difference in the yellow colouration between the samples in the two sets of cells. The invention also provides a test kit for formative susceptibility of acetylcholine esterase in insects using a single insect comprising a pot containing separate containers.
Why it is needed:
Chemical insecticides keep on as the most important agents for the control of vector-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, filartasis etc. Countless deaths from these diseases have been secured since the beginning of the first synthetic insecticide, DDT. Prolonged use of insecticides has though, induced the development of fighting in the vectors, primarily insects that carry diseases. The use test kits of short shelf life and need skilled manpower to conduct the tests and interpret the test results are very fruitful. As a result, very often little is known of the susceptibility status of many insect vectors which tends to affect the outcomes of control programs.
